FAQs
What happens duting a chemical peel?
Before getting a chemical peel, some patients may need to follow a pre-peel skincare regimen for 2 to 4 weeks to enhance results and minimize side effects. Your dermatologist will determine if this step is necessary.
On the day of the peel, your skin will be thoroughly cleansed to prepare for treatment. For a deep peel, general anesthesia will be administered, putting you to sleep, as this type of peel must be performed in a surgical setting.
Once prepped, your dermatologist will apply the peel quickly and evenly, carefully monitoring your skin to remove it at the appropriate time. For deep peels, the skin is treated in small sections to limit effects on the heart and lungs. Afterward, your skin will be treated accordingly—patients receiving a medium peel may need cool compresses and soothing lotions, while those with a deep peel will require a surgical dressing for the treated areas.
